Thomas A. Melger

Thomas A. Melger, age 80, of Plymouth, died peacefully on Thursday, December 12, 2024 with his wife and children by his side at Aurora Sheboygan Medical Center.
He was born on July 30, 1944 in Sheboygan, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Faust) Melger. On March 30, 2013 he married Carol Fischer in Plymouth.
Tom retired from Agnesian Healthcare after 38 years of employment. He served in the United States Marine Corp from 1964-1968 and continued his service in the US Army Reserves for 20 years. He was a proud member and served on the honor guard of the Ladewig-Zinkgraf American Legion Post 243 Plymouth as well as a member of the Marytown Veterans Club. Tom served on several committees while being a part of the Fond du Lac County Board of Supervisors for eight years. He was a member of Salem Plankroad UCC, Plymouth.
Spending time with his grandchildren provided cherished moments for him and he shared how proud he was of each of them every chance he could. Throughout his life Tom enjoyed many pastimes such as traveling to adventurous places both abroad and throughout the United States, deer hunting, ice fishing, playing cards and dominos with friends and family.
He is survived by his wife Carol Fischer-Melger of Plymouth; five children: Renee (Devlin) Burris of Mequon, Christine (Michael) Ludwig of Fairfax, VA, Melissa (Chuck) Battiste of Fredericksburg, VA, Tom Melger of Apple River, IL, and Timothy (John Ruda) Melger of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. He is also survived by his stepson Todd (Dawn) Fischer of Plymouth, and grandchildren Jadelyn and Jayson Burris, Katelyn and Madisyn Ludwig, Tatia and CJ Battiste, Soren and Abigail Melger, and step-granddaughters Delaney, Aubrey, and Katy Fischer. Also one brother, Dennis (Carol) Melger, of Elkhart Lake.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and former wife Betty.
Tom will be dearly missed by all who knew him. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Rocky Knoll Health Care Center, Aurora Sheboygan Medical Center and Hospice for taking such good care of him.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is established in Tom's name.
A memorial service will be on January 8, 2025 at Suchon Funeral Home, 1317 State Road 67, Plymouth, WI. Visitation will be held from 1:00PM – 3:00PM, with services to follow at 3:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Dale Miller. Military honors will be conducted by Ladewig-Zinkgraf American Legion Post 243.
