Thomas "Tom" Menegay

Sterling -- Thomas "Tom" Menegay. On Tuesday, September 23rd, Tom slipped through the veil from this life to the next. Family was the thing that meant the most to Tom, and he was with loved ones at the time of his death.

Tom was born to Helen (Eaglowski) and Harry Menegay on January 4, 1942, and spent his life living simply, helping others while throwing in a little mischievousness along the way. A 1960 graduate of Norwayne High School, he made his career in papermaking, working for Ohio Boxboard, Packaging Corporation of America, and Caraustar Industries. Tom served in the Ohio National Guard during the 1960s.

In his retirement, Tom enjoyed spending time in "the pits" pitching horseshoes and keeping score for others who came to pitch. He was a member of the Wooster Horseshoe Club, and the NHPA and had pitched in several tournaments, including local and worlds. In addition to horseshoes, Tom enjoyed spending time in his garden, helping others, and sharing cookies with his dog, "Little One."

Tom leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Mary (Bihn), three daughters, Sherrill Hambel, Michele (Dan) Bennett, and Amy (Dan) Blackman, his granddaughters, Lauren (Ryne) Richardson, Kelly (Geoff) Bidwell, Rachel (Matthew) Bennett, and Elizabeth (David) Bennett, grandsons Cayden Blackman and Jacob Blackman, and great-grandsons Trent Bidwell and Reed Richardson. He is also survived by his twin sister Lois Moritz, brother Harry Menegay, sister Shirley Moore, as well as step-siblings Judy Sabo and Fred Burger.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Joanne Bihn, step-mother Marguerite Menegay and step-sisters Frances Burger and Jane Brickels.

A private burial will be arranged for the family. Those wishing to honor Tom's memory may do so with a donation to Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary in Ravenna or in his name at an organization of your choice.
