Thomas Mettrick Obituary

Thomas James Mettrick, 84, of Oakmont, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025. He was the son of the late Florence and Thomas Mettrick. Beloved husband of 25 years to Annamae Beardshall. Loving father of Laura (John) Mainarich and Kathleen (David) James. Pap-pap to Patrick (Tina) Lucas, Shannon (Kai) Lucas, Julie (Ethan) Kibbe, and John (Courtney) Mainarich. Great-grandfather of Alexander, Gabrielle Rose, and Jordyn. Brother of Eugenia (Edward) Johnston and Mary (David) Chang. Also survived by nieces Christy, Megan, and Melissa. Tom graduated from Penn Hills High School and then The Pennsylvania State University. He was a proud Air Force veteran during the Vietnam Era. Tom was the physical education teacher in the Plum School District for over 30 years, until retiring in 1997. He also worked for 41 years at Allegheny County Parks in the tennis, wave pool, and ski areas during his career. He coached middle school basketball and track and also senior high tennis and cross country at Plum. The family will hold a Celebration of Life at a future date. If desired, donations can be made to the Pittsburgh Food Bank. Arrangements entrusted to the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC., Oakmont.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Tom´s passing. He was not only a valued colleague but also a true educator who inspired both students and peers. I will remember his dedication and kindness. My heartfelt condolences to the family.
