TOWN OF FAIRFIELD – Thomas R. Morgan, 71, of Parkhurst Road, died on March 11, 2023 at his home.
Tom was born on January 16, 1952 in Utica, a son of the late Robert and Rita (Gokey) Morgan. He worked at various local dairy farms from a young age. He graduated from Poland Central School in 1970 and worked at Northern Lumber for a few years. In 1972, he was drafted into the U. S. Army and served during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1974 at the rank of Sergeant. On May 30, 1975, Thomas was united in marriage with former Lana M. Woodcock in Poland. He was a bus driver and mechanic at Poland Central School for many years and was last employed at the Middleville Rest Home where he worked in various capacities. Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, and enjoyed animals of all kinds.
Survivors besides his wife of 47 years, Lana, include three children, Thomas (Nancy Willoughby) Morgan of Little Falls, Victoria (James) Fox of Herkimer, and Nicholas (Nicole) Morgan of Fairfield; eleven siblings, Allan (Gileen) Morgan of Cazenovia, Ross (Alice) Morgan of Floyd, Jo Ann Carnright of Poland, Jane (Geoff) Garfield of Jacksonville, FL, Jean Shedden of Long Beach MS, Dan Morgan of Dillon, CO, Tina (Fred) Searles of Middleville, Beth Morgan, Mary Ann (Jeff) Davis all of Newport, Roberta (Steve) Marrow of Suffolk, VA, and James (Melissa) Morgan of Schuyler; a sister-in-law, Grace Morgan-Roath of Mesquite, Nevada; nine grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Thomas was predeceased by a brother, William Morgan, and a grandson, Douglas Morgan.
Calling hours will be held at the Autenrith Funeral Home, Newport on Wednesday, March 15th from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, March 16th at 11:00 AM. Spring interment will be held in Pine Grove Cemetery.
