Thomas Murphy Obituary

Thomas J. Murphy age 75 of Chester, NH passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025 at Mass General Hospital in Boston, MA. He was born on May 3, 1949 in Lawrence, MA the son of the late, John and Elizabeth (Tetreau) Murphy. He attended St. John's Prep. in Danvers, MA and graduated from Northeastern University in Boston, MA with a degree in civil engineering.

Tom had worked at Raytheon Corporation for many years. He traveled the world designing and building facilities.

His favorite place away from home was spending time at Waterville Valley Ski Area. One of his greatest enjoyments was downhill skiing. He served on the Board of Directors for the Tyler Spring Condo Association.

He took great pride in his Chester home and loved tending to his gardens. Tom spent many hours with his grandchildren, he loved attending their games, dance recitals and school plays. He also loved to do crafts and have the grandchildren involved in outdoor adventures. Tom was an avid reader. He began each day reading the Boston Globe morning edition and then a variety of novels. No party was complete without Tom's homemade cookies.

Tom is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Collins) Murphy of Chester, NH, his son, Daniel Collins Murphy and his wife, Kelly of Billerica, MA, his daughter, Kate (Murphy) Minichiello and her husband, Philip, Jr. of Merrimack, NH, his sisters, Karen Brown and her husband, Michael and Joanne Kramer, both of Clearwater, FL. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sean Collins Murphy, Erin Christine Murphy, Andrew Thomas Minichiello and Brielle Elizabeth Minichiello and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are Thursday, February 20, 2025 from 4 - 8 PM at Goundrey Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Salem, NH 03079. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 21, 2025 at 11 AM at St. Joseph Parish, 40 Main Street, Salem, NH 03079.

What a great guy! Tommy was such a family man. He was always so nice to my mother. He drove her to the friends get togethers and would say "Driving Miss Daisy"
