Thomas Nelson Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 5, 2025.
Thomas A. Nelson, age 84, of Lee's Summit, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 20, 2025.

Born on October 3, 1941, in Caraway, Arkansas, Thomas spent his early childhood in Tuckerman, Arkansas. His formative years included a unique two-year period in Germany, where his stepfather served as an Air Force Captain, followed by moves across several states during his teenage years. This early exposure to different places cultivated his quiet strength and adaptability.

In 1971, Thomas married the love of his life, Cathy Hunt, and they joyously celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary this past January. He dedicated his professional life to his long and successful career as a computer programmer.

Thomas was a profoundly patient and devoted husband and father, a loyal friend and neighbor, always ready to lend a hand, and generous with his time and resources to anyone in need. He was known for his ready smile, his good sense of humor, and his willingness to goof off with those he loved. He was an avid fisherman and cherished the time spent at his Lakehouse in Shell Knob, Missouri, where he loved to host guests. He took great pride in ensuring everyone had a wonderful time, often spending the entire day taking people out in the boat to water ski, ride the inner tube, and go swimming. He also found great joy in cooking and will be remembered by his family and friends as a surprisingly good dancer.

Thomas is survived by his loving wife, Cathy; his son Brett and his wife Crystal; his son Brian; and his grandson Muhammad. He was preceded in death by his mother, Edith; his father, Arville; his stepfather, Charles; and his brother, Edward.

At this time, arrangements have not been made for a service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Society of Hematology Foundation - www.hematology.org/foundation
