Thomas Max Nichols, 88, of Clarksburg, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2025, in the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center. He was born in Clarksburg on May 13, 1937, a son of the late Carl Wayne and Mabel Virginia (Powell) Nichols.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Phyllis Jean (Alton) Nichols, whom he married November 23, 1958.

Also surviving are his son, Thomas Mark Nichols of South Orange, NJ; his daughters, Christie Lynn McFadden and her husband Aaron B., Lost Creek; Dina Gain and her husband Aaron Lee of Arlington; and Cinda Allen. His grandchildren, Scott Morris and his wife Rosie; Dustin Morris and his wife Meagan; Amberlee Martin and husband Breck; Ashlee Jaumot and husband Jeremy; Kate Nichols; Max Nichols and his wife Alayna; Harry Nichols and his wife Nora; Sara Allen and Amanda Ingram and her husband Tommy; great-grandchildren, Trinity, Austin, Brooklynn and Brennon Martin; Anthony, Maverick, Gracie and Beckett Morris; Carter Jaumot; and Frankie Nichols; and his brother Carl Nichols and his wife Jill of Clarksburg; and several nieces and nephews with whom he was close.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Mike Allen; daughter-in-law, Laura Grace Nichols; sister, Coleen Clovis, and brothers, Jack Nichols and his wife Mona (Sammy); James Nichols and his wife Mary Ann; and Bill Nichols and his wife Patty.

Tom was a proud graduate of Victory High School, Class of 1955, and studied marketing at WV Business College. He served in the US Army as an MP, serving from October 1956 – October 1958. He had worked at Prudential Life Insurance and then food sales for Standard Brands. He loved to take his family to the beach.

Before an accident that disabled him, he loved to bowl and attend the sporting events of his grandchildren. He was an avid WVU fan. At one time, he volunteered with the Harrison County EMS, along with his brothers Jack and Jim. He was a member of Abundant Life Church.

The family would like to thank his caregivers from Village Caregiving, his private home caretakers, and the Staff and Doctors at Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Sunday from 2 – 8 p.m., where services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, November 17, 2025, with Pastor Gregory "Rocky" Dodd presiding. Interment will be held in West Virginia National Cemetery where Military Funeral Honors will be accorded.
