FORT WORTH - Thomas J. Noonan, Jr., was born Feb. 29, 1928, in Philadelphia, Pa., to Thomas J. Noonan, Sr., and Gertrude McNamee Noonan.
Tom attended Saint Thomas Moore High School for boys in Philadelphia and graduated in 1945. He worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad from June 1945 until March 1946. On March 7, 1946 Tom joined the U.S. Coast Guard as an Aerographer's Mate Third Class and served until March 8, 1948. On March 5, 1953 Tom joined the U.S. Air Force and retired July 31, 1980.
During Tom's 27 - year career in the U.S. Air Force, he served as a Radar Intercept Officer on F-94Bs, Navigator, Electronic Warfare Officer on B-52s, Intelligence Officer and Public Affairs Officer.
Tom met and married the love of his life, Laura D. MacDowall, had six children (all who served in the military as well), fought in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, was stationed at numerous bases throughout the United States and overseas. After Tom retired, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, collecting stamps, was an avid reader, did crossword puzzles, enjoyed western and war movies.
Tom had written down a quote on a 3x5 card, from the book: THE LAST BREED by Louis L'Amour, "When I die, remember what you knew of me is with you always. What is buried is only the shell of what was. Do not regret the shell but remember the man. Remember the father".
He passed away peacefully on May 6, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family. We love and miss you deeply, husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa.
The family wishes to express its deepest appreciation to those who assisted in Tom's care during his latter years, Carol Stank and Carol Fisher.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas J. Noonan, Sr., and Gertrude Noonan; brothers, Robert Noonan and Richard Noonan; and his son Thomas J. Noonan III.
He is survived by his lovely wife, Laura Noonan; children, Valerie Henthorn and husband, Robin, Dolora Davis, Mark Noonan and wife, Lamai, Mary Day, and Kevin Noonan; grandchildren, Adam Henthorn, Brian Henthorn, Kasondra Davis, Christina Roberts and husband, Tracy, Thomas Rickett, Julia Jacome, Atthaporn Suwanarat and wife, Kayla, and Christopher Morgan; great-grandchildren, Cataleya, Grant, Cole, Asher, Ariel and Sophitia.
Tom's life will be celebrated graveside on Friday, May 19, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
