Thomas Michael Paul

Thomas Michael Paul of Matthews, NC passed away on July 14, 2024 at the age of 84. He was born February 11, 1940 in Cleveland, Ohio to parents Thomas J. and Alice E. Paul. He is survived by his brother Bill Paul (Eunice), daughters Tammy Gilley (Jim), Christy Story (Bill), and former son-in-law Lenny Keegan, as well as grandchildren Sean and Casey Keegan, and Caroline and Trey Story. He was preceded in death last year by his loving wife of almost 62 years, Carol Champion Paul, as well as their daughter, Stacy Paul who died in 1995.
After attending Ohio University, Tom joined Higbee Company, a major department store in Cleveland, Ohio as a member of their executive training program where he met his wife Carol. In addition to gaining a wife, this program provided a foundation that served as a solid basis for his first career in sales, marketing, strategic planning and corporate development. Tom worked his way up executive ranks of multiple companies including Higbee, Club Aluminum, Myron Nickman/Cook United and Rubbermaid.
In 1983, Tom and Carol followed their dream of moving their family to the Carolinas where he began a second successful career in business consulting.
His company, Champion Group Inc. specialized in driving strategic corporate growth for more than 30 years.
In addition to his life long passion for golf, Tom (Tommy, as he became known in recent years) was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. His wonderful sense of humor will not soon be forgotten!
Tom was an active member of Christ Lutheran Providence Church including leadership within the church's small group initiative.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the Christ Chapel at Christ Providence Church on Saturday, August 24th at 11:00 am. A reception will be held at the church immediately following the memorial service.
