Thomas John Petit

Thomas John Petit, known affectionately by all as Tom, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025 at the age of 74. Born on October 20, 1950, in Wabasha, Minnesota, Tom's life was defined by strength, kindness, and dedication to family.

Tom proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, earning the rank of Sergeant and many medals before his honorable discharge. He later built a respected career in the construction industry, serving as Vice President of Belair Construction and later as Superintendent at Gilbert Contracting, Inc. His colleagues knew him as a man of integrity, dedication, and exceptional skill.

Tom loved cheering for the Rockies, playing golf, and family barbecues that always included competitive games of cornhole. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, which embodied his spirit of freedom and adventure.

A man of few words but profound impact, Tom was known for his wisdom, generosity, and ability to fix anything. He offered guidance, comfort, and a helping hand to all who needed it. He will be remembered not only for what he did but for who he was-a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. Tom will be deeply missed, but the imprint he left on this world will never fade.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Catherine Petit, and their daughters, Cheri (Chris) Brennan and Christine (Kelli) Petit. He was a proud grandfather to Tyler (Ashleigh) Birkholtz and Julia Birkholtz. Tom also leaves behind his mother, Marylou Petit, siblings Janet (Steve) Strauss, Deb (Mike) Strauss, Julie Thomsen, Paul Petit, Michelle (James) Bertrand, Heather (Hector Caballero) Morvari, Lea (John) Stocke, Lesa Paulson, Kim (Lynne) Gosselin, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Petit.

A private burial will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado. Family and friends are invited to gather afterward for food, visiting, and cornhole at The Grill on Main Street in Brighton, CO on October 17th from 1-4 pm.
