Thomas Ray Rice, III
2010-2025
It is with profound sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas Ray Rice, III, affectionately known as "Sponge," who left this world on August 5, 2025, in
Greensboro, North Carolina. Born on January 4, 2010, also in Greensboro, Thomas was a beacon of light and love for all who knew him. He departed from us at the tender age of 15.
Thomas, lovingly referred to as T.J., had an infectious zest for life. He was passionate about fashion and enjoyed keeping himself well-groomed, especially relishing the experience of getting his hair cut. His eye for capturing moments through photography was admired by many. T.J. found joy in simple pleasures like doing yard work and spending quality time with his beloved family. Known for his kindness and protective nature, he was always responsible and respectful towards those he cherished.
A young man of many interests, T.J. loved fishing, riding bicycles with his family, and traveling to new places. He especially enjoyed family vacations at the beach. A natural athlete, he played basketball and ran track, showcasing his talents both on and off the field. T.J. excelled academically as well, achieving A honor roll status with an impressive 4.3 GPA during his freshman year at The Academy at Smith High School.
Deeply rooted in his faith, T.J. was an active member of Christian Life Community Church. He participated enthusiastically in the youth group and took part in various Easter and Christmas programs. His dedication extended to community outreach and involvement in the basketball program at Upper Bound Pleasant Garden Baptist Church.
T.J. is preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Jackie Logan, and his maternal grandfather, Calvin Julius Rustin, Jr. He leaves behind a devoted family who will forever cherish his memory: his loving mother, Marilyn Gaither, and father, Thomas "T.J." Rice; his second mother, Kanish Logan; six sisters, Harmony D. White, Tania R. Rice, Kaylee M. Rice, Katiana B. Chandler, Trinity C. Rice, and Kyaira E. Rice; his maternal grandmother, Marilyn Theresa Gaither; a niece, Nai'Ahri Mo'yani ZoNae Daniel, all residing in Greensboro. T.J. will also be missed by his godparents, Brandon and Christina Jones of High Point, and his uncle, Raymond Logan, Jr.
Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by T.J. are invited to celebrate his life and legacy on Saturday, August 16th, 2025, at one o'clock in the afternoon at Triad Funeral and Cremation. The interment will follow in McLeansville First Baptist Church Cemetery. We remember and honor T.J.'s bright spirit, knowing he will forever remain in our hearts.
