Thomas Collins Rink, 79, surrounded by his loving family, passed away on November 5, 2024.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Alison (nee Whittaker); sons Collin (Lindsay) and Brian (Kathleen); grandchildren Morgan (Austin) Shive, Madeleine, Jack and Joseph; great grandchildren Miles and Ryan Shive; sisters Patricia and Ellen Rink and Nancy (Robert) Carter.
Tom will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. His life was marked by his unshakeable faith and profound integrity, which demonstrated his commitment to living with meaning and purpose.
Born and raised in Rock Island, IL, he attended the University of Notre Dame where he received a B.B.A. in Accounting and a Juris Doctor. While a student there he met Alison and, throughout their marriage, they rarely missed a Notre Dame Football broadcast. Tom proudly served in the US Marine Corps for 4 years, achieving the rank of Captain. While stationed at Headquarters Marine Corps, he earned his Master of Laws in Taxation at George Washington University.
Tom practiced law for 50 years, 40 of which were at Strauss Troy as Chair of its Tax Department. He served as Chair of the Tax Section of the Cincinnati Bar Association, the Southwestern Ohio Tax Institute, and was a member of the Board of the Cincinnati Estate Planning Council. He was selected by his peers for inclusion in "Best Lawyers in America" and as a "Super Lawyer". Mentoring young attorneys was an important aspect of his career.
Spending many years as a resident of Indian Hill, Tom served on Council from 1997 to 2007 and as Mayor from 2003 to 2007. He was Board Chair of Cincinnati Nature Center, President of the Cincinnati Athletic Club and a member of Leadership Cincinnati Class XVIII. Tom enjoyed being an active member of The Camargo Club for 48 years, serving on its Board of Governors for 6 years.
He was a true family man and an exemplary role model. He coached his sons in youth soccer and basketball and cherished family trips to Florida and Michigan. He was an avid golfer and passed on his love for the game to his sons. He also enjoyed skeet shooting, kayaking and reading.
Tom Rink was often described as "one of the nicest men you will ever meet," and this is his legacy that will forever remain with all who knew him.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Gertrude Church in Madeira on Wednesday, November 13, at 1:00 pm. A reception will follow. Burial will be private.
Memorial donations may be made to Parkinson Community Fitness, PO Box 8805, Blue Ash, OH 45242 or Cincinnati Nature Center, 4949 Tealtown Rd. Milford, OH. 45150.

May 25, 2025

Dear Alison, thinking of Tommy on what would be his eightieth birthday tomorrow. Kindly accept my overdue and deep condolences for the loss of your best pal. Tommy was the best cousin I could have ever asked for. He was present at important parts of my life. My Mum, his Aunt Lambie, took great joy when he escorted her down an aisle as the mother of the bride. He told her a joke that made her laugh and relax. The Soul of Thomas C. Rink along with you and your family continue to be in my prayers. In light, your cousin-in-law, Kathleen "Kj" Rink.
