Thomas Samson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by J. J. Duffy Funeral Home on Feb. 17, 2025.
Thomas Samson Jr., 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 17, 2025, at the Greenville Center in Smithfield, RI, with his loving family and devoted caregivers at his side. He was the husband of the late Evelyn F. Samson for sixty years.
Tom, or Tommy as his wife liked to call him, grew up in Cranston, RI, and graduated from Cranston High School. Tom and Evelyn lived in Glocester for over 60 years. After his wife's passing in 2019, he moved to Cumberland with his daughter Linda.
For many years, Tom owned and operated gasoline and auto service stations in Smithfield, Johnston, and Scituate. Prior to that, he worked for Kilmartin Tool Co. as a salesperson and was a Production Manager for Donnelly Manufacturing Company. At the time of his retirement, Tom was a custodian for the Glocester School Department.
He was a member of the Scituate Rotary Club and the URI Master Gardener Program. Tom enjoyed traveling throughout the US with Evelyn, driving his patio boat on Waterman Lake, riding in his Jaguar XK120, woodworking, gardening, his grand-dogs and grand-cats, but most of all, spending time with his family.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law Deborah Samson and Brian Marquis of Glocester, Linda (Samson) Lane and Jeffrey Lane of Cumberland, and Karen (Samson) Coutu and Glenn Coutu of Newport, NH. He also leaves his grandchildren, Michelle (Coutu) Fluck and her husband Alan Fluck, Jay Coutu and his wife Dr. Angela Jacavone, Erik Lane PPD and his fiancée Celina Carreiro, and Sharlene Coutu and her partner Cody Warren; his great-grandson Waylon; his sisters Jean (Samson) Janson and Marie (Samson) Warren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Tom was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Evelyn E. (Smith) Samson, his brother-in-law Michael Janson, and sister Beverly (Samson) Caparco.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Thomas's Life Celebration to be held with Visiting Hours on Friday, February 21, 2024, from 9 AM to 11 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. A prayer service will be held at 11 AM. Burial will follow in the Acotes Hill Cemetery, Chepachet.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Greenville Center Activities Fund, The Arc of Blackstone Valley or Alzheimer's Association of RI.
