Thomas Sanders Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home - Louisville on Dec. 9, 2025.
Thomas Hart Sanders "Tom"

Born December 14, 1943, Tom went to join his heavenly father on December 7th, 2025. Youngest child to Harvey and Lucy Sanders, he was a native of Shively and a 1965 graduate of Butler High School. He worked for the L&N railroad for 40 years across locations in both Louisville and Ashland, KY. He was an avid golfer and played the majority of his rounds at The L&N Golf Club. He was a 60 year member of the Shively Masonic Lodge and a loyal U of L Cardinal fan. He loved nothing more than attending football and basketball games, which he did so for more than 20 years. He never met a stranger and was always quick with an encouraging word for anyone and everyone he met. Always one to add humor to a conversation he was known for his story telling and an enormous ability to make everyone laugh and smile. In his spare time he was always up for a discussion about faith, forgiveness and compassion. In his later life he took up making copper crosses that he loved to give away to friends and strangers alike. A true testament to his strong faith.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers. He is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Joy Sanders, son, Tom (Angie), step-daughter, Regina, step-sons, Marvin and Mike. Grandchildren, Joseph "Hart", Elisabeth "Lilly", Brooklyn, Erika, Andrew, Jesse and Kate.

Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Highlands Funeral Home at 3331 Taylorsville Road on Friday December 12 with the memorial service at 4:00 pm.
