Thomas M. Scheftic

1951 - 2025

Thomas M. Scheftic, 74, of Lower Burrell, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2025, in his home. He was born in New Kensington on Jan. 31, 1951, to the late Thomas E. and Marion L. Flaherty Scheftic and lived in Lower Burrell the majority of his life. He worked as a corrosion technologist for Peoples Gas for 39 years until retiring in 2013. Mr. Scheftic was a Marine Corps. veteran who served in the Vietnam War. He was a member of St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church, American Legion 868, and VFW Post 92, all of Lower Burrell. He was also a drummer for the Up the River Band, as well as numerous other local bands. He enjoyed spending his time outdoors, hunting, fishing, and canoeing, and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan. He is survived by his twin brother, Terry (Gail) Scheftic of Lower Burrell; brothers, John Scheftic of Stow, OH, and Michael (Diana) Scheftic of Port Ludlow, WA; sister, Mary Margaret (Dave) Scarano of Locust Grove, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Catherine Cariss. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2025, at THE RUSIEWICZ OF LOWER BURRELL FUNERAL HOME, 3124 Leechburg Road at Alder St. A Christian Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2025, at St. Margaret Mary Church. Please go directly to church. Burial with Military Honors by the Vandergrift Veteran's Honor Guard will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell. The VFW will conduct services at 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2025, in the funeral home, followed by the American Legion at 7 p.m. www.RusiewiczFH.com
