Thomas Watson "Tommy" Smith

Thomas Watson "Tommy" Smith, 83, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. Services will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Rooks Funeral Home, 109 West White Road in Byron, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM followed by funeral service at 11:00 AM. Rev. Rick Odum will officiate. Burial will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, 7070 Houston Road in Macon.

Born in Newport News, Virginia, to the late Oscar Watson Smith and Mary Nell Fountain Smith, Tommy was saved while attending Avondale Baptist Church in Macon and attended Hardison Baptist Church. A carpenter and electrician, he assisted in building the Byron Boy Scout Hut so that all Troops would have a place to meet, the Byron Police Department, the Sanctuary of Hardison Baptist Church, and many more structures in and near Byron. He was instrumental in making sure Byron had the North Peach Recreational Complex, helped construct the dugouts there, and coached girls' softball. He also participated in making the Battle of Byron a success. He enjoyed attending "gospel sings", loved fishing, and was a true outdoorsman.
Truly "One of a Kind", Tommy touched countless lives in Byron and Peach County. His legacy is how he would help folks and not seek any credit. Byron has definitely lost one of it's best.
Survivors include his sons, Thomas Christopher "Chris" Smith, Troy Smith (Tammy), and Bobby Smith; granddaughters, Madison and Emma; beloved wife, Linda Smith; sister, Alice Hardison (Harry); brother, Johnny Smith; and many more family members and friends. He is preceded in death by a brother, Mickey Smith and sister in law, Sandy Smith.
In lieu of flowers, Tommy requested donations be made to the Byron Scout Hut.
