CHURCHVILLE – Thomas Page Southard, 78, passed away Friday (June 20, 2025) in the University of Virginia Hospital.

Tom was born in Staunton on October 28, 1946, and was a son of George William and Eleanor (Rhodes) Southard. He graduated from Wilson Memorial High School and served our country in the U. S. Air Force as a skilled aircraft mechanic. He was employed by Wilson Trucking for over 20 years prior to his retirement in 2009. Tom enjoyed maintaining his home and lawn to his very particular standards. He also loved restoration projects of all sorts; he was creative and thoughtful, and was a great cook!

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald Southard; and a special cousin, Jerry Scruggs.

He is survived by his wife Linda, whom he married on December 18, 1970; two children, Abby Smith (husband Jason), and Andy Southard (wife Brandy); brother Danny Southard (wife Bonnie); sister-in-law Hedy Southard; grandchildren Deacon Southard and Ruby Smith; and numerous extended family members.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 25 in Green Hill Cemetery, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Michael Fitzgerald. Pallbearers will be Jerry Scruggs II, John Bowling, Jason Smith, Warren Harper, David Fitzgerald, and Dwight Rexrode.

Friends may pay respects at Bear Funeral Home between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24.
