Thomas Thixton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, Inc. - Columbus on Oct. 11, 2024.
Thomas Joe Thixton, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2024, in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the age of 66. Born on March 8, 1958, in Seymour, Indiana, to the late Fred L. and Emogene Callahan Thixton, Tom's life was a testament to the enduring power of love and family.
On June 14, 1980, Tom married the love of his life, Sharon Jo Fox, and together they built a life filled with joy and cherished memories. Though predeceased by his beloved daughter Heather Ann Ketchum, Tom's legacy continues through his grandchildren, Kolby (Sassy), Mykel, and Jazmyn Ketchum, and his one great-grandchild, Nemi Ketchum. He is also survived by his sisters, Tylene (James) Shadwick and Terri L. (Kevin) Blair, who will miss him dearly. Tom was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Sanford.
Tom dedicated many years to the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation, where his commitment to service and community shone brightly. His passions were as varied as they were deep; he relished the tranquility of fishing and boating, the thrill of hunting, and the pride of his gun and die-cast car and truck collections. Tom's love for movies was only surpassed by his love for sharing them with others. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
Above all, Tom was known for his loving nature, friendly demeanor, and passionate spirit. He was especially proud of all his grandchildren, and his presence in their lives will be profoundly missed.
A Celebration of Tom's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 14, 2024, at Garland Brook Cemetery Mausoleum with Pastor Tim Carter officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
As we remember Tom, we are reminded of the words of Helen Keller: "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose; all that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Tom's love and joy have indeed become a part of all who knew him, and his memory will be cherished forever.
