Thomas "Tom" Thompson passed away on June 30, 2025, in Alton, IL with his family by his side.
Thomas C. Thompson, born January 17, 1941 in Hamilton, Ontario Canada.
Throughout his life he had many accomplishments, too many to list them all, but the most important being Founder and Coach of Alton Flames hockey, an educational administrator, landscaper, amazing artist, Mayor of Grafton, governor appointed to the Board of Central Port District IL, his involvement in the church, and his faith and Love in the Lord.
Wife of 45 years, Mary Ann (Mansholt) Thompson, Son David Thompson (Priscilla Jones), Daughter Cheryl Thompson (Steve Griffin), Grandchildren Danielle Dixon (Derek) and Adam Tilton, Great Grandkids Kynlie Muscarella and Kenneth Dixon. Also surviving Sister in Laws & Spouses: Barb & Paul Stumpf, Evelyn Ann & Bill Ambrose, several nieces and nephews, including his Canadian family.
Preceded in death by his beloved sister Jean Bowman, brothers Bill Thompson and Alec Thompson all from Ontario Canada, sister in law & spouse Betty & Harley Hicks.
He had great love and compassion for his family, friends, music and humor and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held Monday, July 7, 2025 from 4:00 pm until time of service at 7:00 pm at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey. Pastor Steven Helfrich will be officiating.
Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or any other charity of your choice in his name.

Barb and I were saddened by the news of Tom´s passing. I have many fond memories of Tom and the time we spent together beginning when we were both counselors at Alton High School. Later, Tom became Principal at Alton High while I was chairman of the Counseling Department. Tom was one who could inspire students and staff. He was an excellent speaker and I am sure he touched many students lives as he spoke to them in school assemblies. One of the things I enjoyed most about Tom was his humor. He always had a funny story or joke to share with you. I was always amazed by all the things he became involved with: real estate, horticulture, landscaping, mayor, coaching, and of course education. I can hear him saying now, "I had a pretty good run didn´t I, eh"

Mary & family: I was so saddened to hear of Mayor Thompson's passing. I was blessed to get to know him during his term as a Board of Commissioner at the Port. He always had a smile, and usually a joke or a funny story to share and was always a true gentleman! May your happy memories give you comfort during this difficult time. You are in my thoughts and prayers!
