Thomas “Tom” LeRoy Shaw, 72, of Duluth, MN passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and two daughters on January 22, 2026 at St. Luke’s Hospital.
Tom was born on August 4, 1953 in Duluth, MN to Donald & Florence Shaw. He was a carpenter, a cook, a bowler, and an apartment manager. He used these skills not only to excel in his career, but also help his family, friends, and community.
Tom was known for being a helping hand, a great cook, and a family man. He spent much of his free time with his wife, kids, grandkids, and his great granddaughter during the last year of his life. He was known as the soup guy, making soup for residents at the apartments he managed, his daughters’ coworkers, and his family. He created his own business, The Home Improvers, and built his family's home in Hermantown. He was the go-to person for home repairs, always willing to lend his skills to anyone in need.
Tom was a people person and could talk to anyone he came into contact with. He was friendly, funny, charming, and of course, stubborn. His warm smile and sarcastic humor had a lasting impact on anyone he would talk to.
Tom was preceded in death by his brother, Patrick Shaw.
Tom is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marlene Shaw; children, Holly (Brad) Anderson of Brookston, MN and Heidi (Anthony) Shaw of Duluth, MN; grandchildren, Morgan (Dylan) Kettner, Molly (Chris) Vogl, and Abby Huntley; only great-grandchild, Scarlett Kettner, who brought him tremendous joy; sibling, Susan Adams; as well as his nieces and nephews, and a variety of friends and acquaintances whose lives were enriched by his company.
Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 - 4:00 PM on Tuesday, February 3rd at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy. Please join family and friends to honor and share stories of Tom.
He will be remembered for his life stories, generous nature, and kind heart.
