Thomas L. Spearing, 83, of Ellsworth, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 17th, with his family by his side.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 47 years, Lynn Aldrich Spearing, his son Charlie Spearing (wife Jing) and daughter Jen Schaub (Bill). Tom was honored to have four amazing grandchildren: Harrison Schaub, Gaby Spearing, Cece Schaub and Isabel Spearing.
He was preceded in death by his sister Helen Robinson two days earlier, his mom Alice Spearing, 2004, his dad Leonard Spearing, 1968, grandson Kaleb Spearing, 1999, and grandson, Wesley, 2019.
Tom was a proud graduate of Central Michigan University and a member of the Marching Chips. He was a lifelong educator, serving in schools in Northwest Michigan and West Michigan from his graduation in 1964 until and even after his retirement. He loved music and was a musician and/or band director all his life. He also loved computer science and eventually obtained a degree in it. In addition to teaching and musical performance, Tom loved woodworking and was incredibly talented. Family was particularly important to him, and he cherished his time with them.
There will be no service at this time but the family will plan a gathering at a later date where for certain there will be desserts available as no one had more of a “sweet tooth.”
Arrangements are in the care of the Ellsworth Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Please sign his online guestbook at www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com
