Thomas Edward Truss Sr.

July 14, 1958 - January 23, 2026

Thomas Edward Truss, Sr, 67, passed away at home with his wife Michelle and his faithful companion Sadie by his side. He bravely battled brain cancer for a short time. Originally from Hopewell Jct, NY, he and his wife moved to McMinnville, TN in 2014.

Tommy was a great man, hardworking, a joker, loyal and generous friend. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and going to auctions and yard sales. His great passion was riding his Harley Davidson. He used to participate in many runs with his friends raising funds for kids with cancer. He was very creative and talented with iron and wood. He loved making unique windchimes, birdhouses and iron art work.

Tommy retired in 2011 from NYSDOC Fishkill Correctional, Beacon, NY, after more than 20 years as a Mason/Maintenance worker. He worked all his life to provide for his family. Some jobs include Trash Busters, FL with his dad. Metro North Commuter Railroad, NY, were he received an award for "Outstanding Employee". He enjoyed driving trucks and backhoe. He was so good he could take a hat off his friends' head without touching him. He worked for Montagon & Richie, Cold Spring, NY as a driver. He owned his own masonry business, Truss & Son's in FL. He was a volunteer firefighter at North Highland Fire Dept, Cold Spring, NY.

Born in N. Tarrytown, NY, he was preceded in death by his parents James Joseph Truss, Sr and Elsie Mae Carlson Truss, FL. His Uncles Carl Carlson, Leon Carlson, Robert Carlson, Kevin Carlson and Thomas Carlson. His Aunts Joan Joslyn, Susan Carlson and Eileen Baughman, Father-in-law Jack Shaw, NY and his dear friend Timmy Russell, NY.

Survivors include his wife of 18 yrs, Michelle Shaw Truss, his faithful beagle Sadie, mother-in-law Irma Shaw, TN, brother-in-law John Shaw, NV.

Siblings James Joseph Truss, Jr, husband Don, FL, Michael Truss, Sr, wife Jami, FL, Tina Truss Risley, husband Scott, FL, Uncle James Carlson, NY, Aunt Sheila, husband Uncle Frank Scordino, FL, Aunt Joyce Sles, FL.

His children from previous marriage, Danielle Truss, NY, Lauren Truss, CA, Thomas Truss, Jr, wife Nicole, NY, Emily Truss Vali, husband Steve, NY. His nieces Jackie Risley, AL, Monica Risley Wilson, husband James, FL, nephew Michael Truss, Jr, wife Kayla, FL., cousin William (Billy) & Lexi Strieder, NC and many cousins and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family.
