Thomas J. “Tom” Veremis
Beloved father, grandfather, and brother joined his wife and daughter on his daughter’s birthday, on Thursday, February 19, 2026. At the age 92 years.
The son of the late John (Marigo) and Sophia (Gargalionis) Veremis, Tom was born on October 24, 1933, in Greece. He married Irene M. Makriannis on March 1, 1958, in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. They settled in Saginaw, Michigan, where they shared many wonderful years together. She preceded him in death on January 2, 2026. Tom was a proud owner of Zorba’s Restaurant and Lounge, where he shared his love of Greek cuisine and hospitality with the community for over 40 years. His dedication to his craft made Zorba’s not only a local landmark, but a gathering place where countless memories were made. He was a devoted member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. He enjoyed volunteering, especially at the annual Greek Festival and church gatherings. Tom found solace tending to his garden and going to the casino, especially with his wife and dear friends. Above all, Tom cherished the time spent with his family and loved ones.
Surviving are his daughter, Dina Haralambis; two adored granddaughters, Irina and Maria Haralambis. He is also survived by his sisters and brother, Matina Ioannidis, Demetra Liabotis, Ted Veremis. Tom will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Besides his wife and his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his daughter, Joanna Veremis; son-in-law, Pete Haralambis; his sister and brothers, Sophia Papst, George Veremis, Petros Veremis.
Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 4970 Mackinaw Road, Saginaw, MI 48603. Fr. Timothy Cook will officiate with entombment to follow at Oakwood Memorial Mausoleum. Friends may visit the family from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2026, at W. L.
