Thomas Walters Obituary

Visit the Funeraria San Juan Funeral Home - S. John Young Parkway website to view the full obituary.
Thomas worked at JFK airport as a service man fueling airplanes. He was good at his job and made many friends there. Sometime later an opportunity arose and he went to work for New York city transit. He excelled there as he climbed the ladder from Porter to Station clerk at the booth. He was hardworking and diligent in all aspects of his job. He then became a money train collector, and retired in that position after many years of service. Tom had a great sense of humor, that came with an undeniably contagious laughter. You couldn't help yourselves but laugh in his presence. His favorite saying was, " what it is? What it is? What it look like!?
He was a great fan of music, loved jazz, Rhythm and Blues, doo- wop and pop. Tom prided himself at being great at card games. He excelled at them all spades, Bid Whist and especially, Pinochle. He showcased his skills by whopping everyone in cards. Tom loved entertaining. His home was the place where this flourished and a great time was to be had by all. He welcomed everyone, whether on the 7th floor of his Avalon terrace apartment, or the basement at 229th St. After work on Friday evening, this was the place to be, where hot plates of food, fun and laughter were in session and an open door policy to all. He leaves behind to mourn, the love of his life and partner, Hildeliza. His children, Thomas Jr., Darren, Michele and Lisa. His four beautiful grandchildren, one great granddaughter and two daughter in-laws'. A host of nieces and nephews, cousins and close friends too numerous to name. In his passing, we mourn, we grieve, and we celebrate the person he was. The man that bought joy, laughter and love to those who knew him best. Knowing he will be missed by all who had the good fortune to know him or be part of his life. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Thomas, please visit our floral store.
