Thomas Wilson Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 22, 2025.
Thomas Wayne Wilson was born on August 6, 1947, in Austin, Texas to Robert Fulton Wilson, Jr. and Frances Geraldine "Jeri" Cox Wilson. He entered into his eternal home on September 20, 2025.

Tommy grew up in Austin until the family moved to Rosanky, Texas, where he graduated from Smithville High School. He attended Blinn College and Southwest Texas State University where he received his bachelor's degree (Journalism and History).

On December 22, 1970, he married Blenda Hammack. Shortly after, he left for boot camp, and they served their time with the Army in Pearl City, Hawaii.

After returning from service, he and Blenda moved to Kennedale, Texas, while Tommy earned his master's degree at Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth. Their daughter Angie was born there in 1975.

From there, Tommy and Blenda served at Children's Homes in Kingsland and La Porte, then at FBC Edna as Youth Director and then Education Director. From there, he served as Director of Missions in Gonzales, then retired in Burnet, still serving any way he could, from interim preaching and music to playing a role in Main Street Bethlehem to pickleball coordinator. In 2023, they moved to Celina to be closer to their precious growing family.

Over the years, he served his communities in many ways. He was integral in starting Helping Hands and Set Free Prison Ministry, and he and Blenda volunteered with Texas Disaster Relief and Baptist Student Ministries at Texas State University. Most people probably remember his guitar/harmonica/banjo/ukelele playing, his woodworking, his never-ending energy, and his eternally positive spirit.

Tommy is preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents (Robert F. and Mattie Wilson, and Wes and Effie Cox), and his brothers-in-law, Billy Hammack and Duane Widner.

He is survived by his wife, Blenda, daughter Angela Ruth and husband Stephen, granddaughter Callie McPherson and husband Logan, grandsons Casey Ruth and Kyle Ruth, great-granddaughters Jolie and Gemma McPherson, sister Pat Wilson Widner, beloved in-laws Greg and LuAnn Hammack, Clay and Ida Hammack, and Connie and Roland Peña, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Family graveside service will be at Bagdad Cemetery on September 25, 2025. Funeral will be held at First Baptist Church Burnet at 11:00am on September 24, 2025, and a Celebration of Life will be held at First Baptist Church Edna at a later date. Donations can be made to Texas Baptist Disaster Relief, Texas State University Student Ministry, or donate to your local Memory Care facility.
