Thomasina Covington Obituary

Published by Terry Funeral Home, Inc. - Philadelphia on Feb. 15, 2017.
Thomasina Noble Covington was born July 7, 1944, in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Frank Noble and Vivian Jenkins. She was the youngest of four children. Her siblings included Frank, Frances, and the late Berth Mae. During the early years of Thomasina's life, the family moved to Philadelphia. Tommye, as she was affectionately called, was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System. She proudly graduated from Simon Gratz High School. Tommye epitomized Proverbs 17:22 "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones." She always kept a smile on her face. Her smile was like a lantern that would light up the room whenever she entered the building. Thomasina's warmth was felt in all that she did, especially as she reached out and touched others. She was a giving, loving, and caring person who would do anything for anybody whether she was living in Philadelphia or New York. Thomasina was a strong passionate woman with a zest for life. Because she was always giving, the Lord had compassion on her and allowed love to come to her door steps. Thomasina met and married William Covington, Sr. She loved life and lived it to the fullness. The Lord blessed her with four wonderful children: Vincent, William Jr., Renee, and Kim. They were precious in her sight. In addition to the love she had for her children, Tommye had an insatiable love for music. She enjoyed sharing music with her family and the neighborhood. On any given day she would open her window, turn the lights down low, and play her tunes. She was especially fond of the oldies and her favorite songs included Native New Yorker, Bohannan, and Chocolate Girl. Her popular artists included the Commodores, Al Green, Isaac Hayes, Natalie Cole, and Aretha Franklin. Tommye worked for the Ramons Bus Company. She also worked in various retail establishments including Casual Corner, Today's Man, and Saks Fifth Avenue. She was a woman of style and grace. Thomasina was raised in a home where her mother Vivian instilled good morals and values. These values were passed on to her children. Each of them were given the foundation that they needed to succeed in life. In the early morning hours on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, Thomasina's name was called and she breathed her last breath. Although she is no longer with us, her smile and memories remain. Things that she said and did will forever be a part of us. Thomasina leaves to cherish her memory, her four children: Vincent Noble (Kim Cotton), William Covington, Jr., Reneé Muchison (Daniel Muchison, Sr.), and Kim Covington; one brother: Frank Jenkins; one sister: Frances Blackshear; 8 grandchildren: Derrick Wilson, Shana Wilson, Shannon Covington, Nicole Covington, Shaniece Covington, Anthony Covington (Tiffany Covington), Daniel Muchison, Jr., and Daneé Muchison; 6 great–grandchildren: Dameisha Wilson, India Wilson, Cameron Wilson, Elijah Wilson, Thamoni Stevens, and soon-to-be-born Nehemiah Covington; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Sorrowfully submitted by the Family
