Tillman Caudill, age 85, of
Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, passed away peacefully Friday, January 16, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
Born January 27, 1940, in Johnson County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Kirk Caudill and Lucy Jackson Caudill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Caudill in 2016, and a grandson, Brandon Caudill in 2017.
Tillman is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Janet Carol Smith Caudill, whom he married on January 15, 1988; two sons, Terry Caudill (Rhea) of
Morehead, Kentucky, and Tommy Caudill (Dianne) of Cincinnati, Ohio; one daughter, Judy Alcorn of Milford, Ohio; and three stepchildren, David Conn (Melissa) of West Liberty, Robin Chaffin of Eagle River, Alaska, and Stacy Hite (Chris) of Grand Junction, Colorado. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Additional survivors include two sisters, Sylvia Tackett of Louisville, Kentucky, and Janet Conley (Arby) of Salyersville, Kentucky; a niece, Dena Belcher; two nephews, James Tackett and Jason Tackett; along with other extended family members and many friends.
Tillman proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1960 to 1963 in Korea. He grew up in Johnson County and spent much of his life in both Johnson and Magoffin counties. He was a graduate of Johnson Central High School. Following his military service, he returned to Eastern Kentucky, where he worked in the coal industry, drove a school bus for the Johnson County School System, and later served as a rural postal carrier in Johnson County for 13 years.
In 1990, Tillman and Janet moved to Winchester, Kentucky, where he began working for Cutter Homes in Lexington. He retired in 1995, after which they relocated to Montgomery County.
Tillman enjoyed carpentry and especially loved building storage buildings. He took pride in mowing and caring for his two-acre lawn-often cutting grass twice a week. A skilled mechanic, Tillman could repair just about anything on a car. Above all else, he cherished his family and believed his wife and children "hung the moon."
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Brian Young officiating. Burial will follow in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East in Grayson, Kentucky.
Pallbearers will be Terry Caudill, Jonathan Caudill, David Conn, James Caudill, Andrew Norton, and Roy Chen.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2026, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive,
Morehead, KY 40351.
