Tim Kearney Obituary

Timothy Robert Kearney, 73, of Fort Wayne, passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2025 at home with his wife. Tim was born in Fort Wayne, IN on November 15, 1951. He was the husband of Ginna (Klein) Kearney, who survives him; and father to surviving children Katie (David) Perkins of Ft. Wayne; Margaret (Casey) Ryan of Ft. Wayne; and Emmett (Anie Lee) Kearney of Indianapolis. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and his brother Kevin Kearney of Worcester, MA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Shirley (Kopp) Kearney, brother Sean Kearney, and daughter Molly Kearney.

Tim (as well as his wife Ginna) was a 1970 graduate of Bishop Dwenger High School and proudly sent 3 children there; he has watched 5 grandchildren (current and former) study there as well. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1974 as an electrical engineer and went on to also receive a master's degree from Purdue (but he liked to keep that latter fact quiet). Tim worked for Magnavox/Phillips/Raytheon for over 35 years and finished his engineering career at Zimmer Biomet in Warsaw.

He was a parishioner at St. Charles Borromeo for most of his life but had been a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church for the last 20 years. He served there on the parish council until his dying day. Tim was very involved in civic life and donated thousands of hours to the Boy Scouts of America. As a former Eagle Scout, then scoutmaster for his son Emmett, he finished his service to the BSA by volunteering for the Allen County board in the capacity of approving Eagle Scout projects for many years. He had received a new batch of projects to evaluate only 2 days before he passed! He was also active as a Ham Radio operator since he was a teenager. In his office, he still has a world map on the wall with 100s of post cards displayed from fellow Ham operators that he spoke to around the globe.

Tim also enjoyed woodworking and constantly had a project in the works. He even has some unfinished custom piggy banks for his youngest 4 grandchildren -- still in progress in his workshop! He crafted everything from kitchen tables and dressers to jewelry boxes and cutting boards. He gifted over 20 handmade wooden clocks to friends and family as wedding gifts. He was truly a talented woodworker and even took an adult course at Anthis for approximately 15 years. Tim enjoyed the camaraderie, instruction, and of course the great woodshop equipment at Anthis.

As Tim's pulmonary fibrosis progressed, he slowed down in terms of physical activities outside the home, but he still remained quite social. Tim loved a good conversation and could chat with almost anyone. For the last year, his favorite weekly outing was Sunday mass and Tuesday breakfast with his wife, 2 daughters, and 2 youngest grandchildren. Despite his discomfort and difficulty breathing, he always said, "I've been so blessed. I can't complain."

Tim was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who shepherded his family well. He worked hard; he expected excellence, and he was a disciplined and wise leader. He dedicated his life to serving his community, providing for his family, and imparting the faith. He was a good and faithful servant of God. Eternal rest grant unto Tim, O Lord, and let Perpetual Light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the Mercy of God, rest in peace.
