Timothy Ley Obituary

Timothy Ley

December 20, 1952 - December 3, 2025

Our dear Tim went to be with the Lord and the angels on December 3, 2025.

Tim was born on December 20, 1952, in Denver, CO. He spent several years living in Wyoming before settling in Rapid City, SD, in 1969. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1974. Throughout his adult life, Tim worked for many organizations that served the Rapid City community, including Rapid City Hospital, the YMCA, the Salvation Army, and Black Hills Workshop. Over the years, Tim was blessed by serving in various children's ministries at Open Bible and Landmark Community Church.

One of Tim's greatest joys was supporting the Post 22 baseball team. He was a loyal SUPERFAN for more than 50 years. In addition to watching sports, Tim enjoyed bowling, spending time with people who cared about him, and being included in their activities.

When things were quiet at his apartment, Tim would often call his brothers, cousins, and friends. Staying connected meant everything to him. He also enjoyed working on puzzles, especially during cold winter days.

Sports were a huge part of Tim's life. He knew most NFL and MLB teams and took great joy in cheering for the Broncos and Rockies-particularly when they were playing the Kansas City and Chicago teams where his brothers lived. Tim wasn't afraid to switch allegiances if another team was having a strong season. On Sundays, you could usually find him watching sports with his mom after church.

Tim is survived by his mother, Patricia Ley, and his two brothers, Dennis (Linda) Ley and Richard (Michele) Ley. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Ley; his younger brother, Steve Ley; grandparents Lyle and Clara Gillett and Jacob and Selma Ley; and many aunts and uncles.

Oh, how his family loved him and will miss him-especially his mom. The Ley family is deeply grateful to the Rapid City community for befriending Tim and welcoming him wherever he went over the past 50+ years. You brought great joy and meaning to his life.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 10 a.m., at Open Bible Church, 2225 E St. Patrick Street, Rapid City, SD. Tim will be laid to rest in Powell, WY, on the family plot on December 22.

Memorial contributions may be made to Post 22 Baseball (visit post22baseball.com) or by mailing checks to: Post 22 Baseball, PO Box 9133, Rapid City, SD 57709.

My sister Linda Parrott lived in the same apartments as Tim for many years, and she enjoyed his quiet and friendly manner. She considered him a good friend, and when we visited it was fun to watch his love of sports and his friends at Wisconsin.
