DEACON TIMOTHY BEATY, SR. Obituary
Timothy Boyd Beaty, Sr. was born on June 28, 1964 and passed away on July 19, 2024 at the age of 60. Tim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother. He was a strong anchor for his extended family and came to be an ever-present part of their lives. He was a true friend–loyal at all times. Above all else, he was a strong believer and a child of God.
After his relationship with God, nothing held a higher place in Tim's life than his family. The second son born to Priscilla Beaty, he shared a special relationship with his mother, speaking with her often and making frequent trips to visit her home in Dayton from Indianapolis.
Tim was also a devoted husband to Lynel, having been together for 40 years and married for 34 years. Meeting in the band at Central State University, Tim and Lynel seemed to be made for each other. They shared life's joys and challenges together, encouraging one another and becoming stronger through it all. Their greatest accomplishment was creating two beloved sons, Timothy, Jr. and Michael Clay Anthony. If either of the boys were engaged in something they loved–be it playing in the band, playing football at a far away stadium, coaching baseball or basketball, or touring across the country, you could find Tim right there supporting his sons. This gift of showing up for people extended to his nieces and nephews, regardless of distance or time. Even when his words were few, his actions spoke volumes in communicating his love and support.
This love was especially on display when Tim became a proud Papaw to Laila, Nyla, and Marlii. These three little girls immediately landed in the center of Tim's heart, and the special relationship he had with each of them was evident to anyone who had the pleasure of seeing them together.
Outside of his family, Tim found lifelong friendship and brotherhood as a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated. He became a member in the Spring of 1985 - Nu Chapter at Central State University, along with 12 other brothers known as Project 13. Once relocating to Indianapolis, he became a member of Xi Sigma, where he presently served as 2nd Vice President.
Professionally, Tim dedicated his life to the field of education, profoundly impacting the lives of countless students as a teacher and band director. He began his teaching career in Dayton Public Schools, where he inspired young musicians with his passion and dedication at Dayton Dunbar High School for over 18 years. He continued his career in Indianapolis Public Schools, after his family relocated to Indianapolis. During his time in IPS, he taught Kindergarten through 12th grade–highlighting his ability to connect with and educate students at all levels. He served at Northwest, John Marshall, and Arlington High Schools, and for the last six years he taught at James Russell Lowell School 51, which he loved. Beyond K-12, Tim also stepped in on three different occasions and served as Interim Director of Bands at Central State University, as well as serving as Assistant Band Director.
Tim was a product of Dayton Public Schools, graduating from Patterson Cooperative High School in 1982. He then went to Central State University inWilberforce, OH. At Central State, his love for music continued, and he majored in Music Education. Tim was a member of the Invincible Marching Marauders, where he served as Section Leader for the Drum Section. Tim was also a Charter member of Kappa Kappa Psi Professional Music Fraternity, and was planning on celebrating their 40th Anniversary this year.
Tim was a true man of God who kept God first. He professed his faith as a young man at Zion Baptist Church in Dayton, OH where he became an Ordained Deacon. He later transferred his membership to Believer's Christian Fellowship Church, where he became an Ordained Deacon. When he relocated to Indianapolis, he became a member of First Baptist Church North Indianapolis where Tim served as an Ordained Deacon, a Choir Director and fill-in drummer as needed. He loved serving God and this showed if you were ever blessed to see him direct the choir singing 'Emmanuel' or 'How Excellent'.
Deacon Tim Beaty demonstrated his love and commitment to Christ through his love of family, faithfulness to the church, and commitment to the young people of our community. We praise God for the fulfilling life he lived and for all he deposited in the lives of so many!
Tim is survived by his loving wife, Lynel; his children, Timothy Jr. (Niiajia), and Michael Clay Anthony; his three grandchildren, Laila, Nylah, and Marlii; his mother, Priscilla; his brother, Michael (Crystal); his sister-in-law, Tijuanna Tolliver (Steven), brother-in-laws Adrian Brooks I (Terry), and Anthony Brooks Jr. (Pam); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, fraternity brothers, and friends.
Tim was preceded in death by his grandparents, Losa and Hartford Goosby, grandfather Lois Beaty, sister, Allison; father-in-law, Rev.Dr. Anthony Brooks Sr. ;and mother-in-law, Mrs. Alice Brooks.
Today, we bid you a gentle goodbye with love that will never part. For though you've left this earthly place, you live on in our hearts.
