Timothy Leon Bunting, affectionately known as "Tim," passed away peacefully in his hometown of Columbus, Georgia, on April 2, 2025, at the age of 58. Born on November 21, 1966, Tim dedicated much of his life to his career and to the nurturing and education of young minds.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00PM Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at Calvary Baptist Church, 7556 Old Moon Rd, Columbus, GA 31909 with Dr. Ricky Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00PM Monday, April 7, 2025 at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd, Columbus, GA 31907.
Tim's professional journey began in the manufacturing industry before he discovered his passion for education. For over 15 years, he served as a paraprofessional with the Muscogee County School District, where he most notably contributed to the vibrant community at Rigdon Road Elementary. His commitment to fostering a positive learning environment was evident in everything he did.
Those who knew Tim would describe him as a person with a great sense of humor, always ready to share stories from his past that brought laughter and joy to others. He had a unique talent for weaving bedtime stories that captivated the imaginations of children, showcasing his creativity and love for storytelling. Tim’s innovation and dedication did not go unnoticed; he received several awards during Media Days with Hannan Magnet Academy, recognizing his contributions to the educational field.
An avid supporter of the Georgia Bulldogs, Tim had a lifelong love for sports. His passion for football led him into coaching, where he shared his knowledge and skills starting in 2007 with the local recreation league. He progressed to coaching youth arena football and eventually became a community coach at the high school level. Throughout his coaching career, he was involved with several schools, including Columbus High School, Glenwood, Calvary Christian School, and St. Luke School. Tim took great pride in being a key member of the coaching staff for the 2020 State Championship Football Team at Calvary Christian School, a moment that would remain close to his heart.
Tim is survived by his loving wife, Melissa Bunting, and their children, Jordan and Lizzie. He leaves behind a caring family that includes his mother-in-law, Pat Trawick, brother-in-law Robert Trawick, and sister-in-law Amanda Cannon. He cherished his role as an uncle to his nephew Christian Cannon and nieces Kaley and McKenzie Cannon, as well as a great-uncle to Adriel Cannon and Alianis Cannon.
Tim was preceded in death by his father, James Leon Bunting, and mother, Nancy Jean (Tracy) Bunting, alongside his father-in-law, Leroy Trawick.
In remembrance of his remarkable impact on both his family and the community, Tim will be honored by those he influenced throughout his life. Honorary pallbearers include Ashley Hightower, Glenn Barringer, Greg Moore, Brian Osborne, Michael Grant, Mike Peacock, and the 2020 State Championship Football Team from Calvary Christian School.
Timothy Leon Bunting will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to education, his infectious spirit, and the loving legacy he leaves behind, touching the lives of many throughout his journey.
