Timothy K. Cloudman of Cumberland Foreside, son of Olin B. Cloudman and Ruth Kimball Cloudman, died peacefully at home on February 2, 2026 after a long illness. Born on July 16th, 1942 in Mobile, Alabama, Tim grew up in New Orleans and attended Metairie Park Country Day School from first grade until graduation in 1960. There he met many lifelong friends and his first wife, Rebecca Ann Bain “Becky” Haas. Tim and Becky married in 1964 and had two daughters, Rebecca (known as Kim) and Catherine. Becky passed away in 1989.

Adversity followed Tim, but it never bested him. Tim initially attended the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania but returned to New Orleans following a serious illness. Shortly after he and Becky married at the age of 22, Tim contracted Guillain-Barré Syndrome, a debilitating and little-known virus, leading to near total paralysis followed by a two-year recovery. Hospitalized and unable to move, Tim vowed to contribute to society and to life, even if he had only his mind to offer. A promise kept every day thereafter.

Misfortune was no match for Tim’s grit and determination. Upon scoring well on the LSAT exam and impressing the admissions committee, he was admitted without an undergraduate degree to Tulane University Law School, a highly unusual exception at the time. Despite limited mobility, he was determined to provide for his family. By night, he managed ‘The Computer’, a favorite bar of the New Orleans scene, and attended law school during the day. He graduated and passed the Louisiana Bar shortly thereafter.

Tim and family moved to Gorham, Maine in 1973. Expecting to practice law there under a Louisiana-Maine reciprocity agreement, he arrived to learn that the arrangement had been terminated just weeks earlier. With no spare time or money at hand, Tim put his abundance of people skills to work and embarked on a new path, beginning a long and successful career in the Portland business community.

From Maine National Bank and KPMG to ROMAC and Associates and Cloudhawk Management Consulting, Tim’s sage advice, business acumen, unfailing kindness, and remarkable sense of humor helped countless young professionals build successful businesses. Along the way, Tim assembled the dearest of friends and business partners, including David Hawkes, Stephen Anderson, and Scott McMullin – together forming the “gang of four.” Following Becky’s death and his own renewed health challenges, Tim returned part-time to his New Orleans roots when he established the local Romac franchise and managed it from Maine with his amazing team of “Tim’s Angels,” until it was sold 6 weeks before Katrina devastated the city in 2005. Even in retirement, he continued to serve, including more than fourteen years on the Board of the Tilton School in Tilton, New Hampshire where he contributed greatly to the school’s governance.

Tim believed in living joyfully, and few things brought him greater, lifelong joy than being on the water. He learned to sail at the age of eight on Lake Pontchartrain and later found his element sailing and motoring along the rocky coast of Maine. He belonged to the Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans and the Portland Yacht Club in Falmouth, Maine, where he served as treasurer for many years.

Tim has often said that marrying well once is a gift. Marrying well twice - a remarkable gift. He married Loralane (Lori) Garon in 1991and together they have enjoyed a bountiful life full of adventures and experiences, including spending four months of the year in southern France for most of the last nineteen years. Blending Tim and Lori’s two families to one-great, riotous whole remains their greatest joy.

Tim’s is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lori Garon; his two daughters, Rebecca Hersman and her husband, Patrick Terrell, of Hume, Virginia; his daughter, Catherine Cloudman and her husband, Ralph Good, of South Portland, Maine; his stepson, Joe Dambrie and his wife, Tracy Dambrie, of Germantown, Tennessee; his stepson, Nicholas Dambrie and his wife, Hadley Dambrie, of Cumberland Foreside, Maine; and 9 wonderful grandchildren, Kat Hersman, Audrey Hersman, Caroline Hersman, Sophie Good, Ian Good, Becca Good, Erin Dambrie, Wyatt Dambrie and Willa Dambrie. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Lou Cloudman, of Macon, Georgia, and is survived by his brother, David Cloudman, of Davie Florida.

Tim’s family is grateful to Dr. Mathew Dugan and his incredible team at New England Cancer Specialists; Allie Ray and Angela Esposito of Hospice of Southern Maine; and Michelle Hayes of The Dempsey Center. The care and compassion shown by “these angels on earth” made a difficult time far more manageable. The family sends heartfelt thanks to those who would like to contribute to these organizations in lieu of flowers: The Dempsey Center - https://www.dempseycenter.org/support/ and Hospice of Southern Maine -https://hsm46624.thankyou4caring.org/sslpage.aspx?pid=298.
