Timothy McCarroll Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cromwell Funeral Home on Feb. 12, 2025.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Timothy Ian McCarroll, 51, of Cromwell and Clinton, Connecticut, with his loving wife Kate (Catherine) McCarroll (Getek), originally of Rocky Hill, CT, by his side, on February 6th, 2025.
Tim was born in West Springfield, MA on June 6th, 1973, to Jeffrey and Jeanne McCarroll (Pariseau) currently of Broad Brook, CT. They provided Tim and his brother Jeff with a happy childhood full of sports, love and laughter. They also allowed him the freedom to curate his gift of wit and mischief, and laid the groundwork for his academic achievements, albeit initially against his will.
Tim wooed the love of his life, Kate, with his hilarious sense of humor, sharp intelligence and a well-kept secret soft side of caring and thoughtfulness. Kate formally began her life of laughter and patience when they wed on August 10th, 2001. Through their love, they created their two most proud accomplishments, their children Colin Robert and Lauren Jeanne. Tim was the hub of the family, guiding them to succeed and pushing them to excel, all while relentlessly pranking them and providing them with constant laughter. His wit, humor and ambition were strong genetic gifts readily witnessed in both Colin and Lauren. Along with many friends and family members, Tim leaves behind his loving in-laws, Kenneth and Trudy (Roberts) Getek of Middletown, CT, his brother-in-law Darren Getek and his wife Lisa also of Middletown, CT, and was the ultimate fun uncle to their three children, Trevor, Sam and Tim's goddaughter Rachel. Tim also leaves behind his sister-in-law Kim Knust of Point Pleasant, NJ.
Tim graduated from West Springfield High School in 1991 where he was awarded the high honor of All New England in soccer and although his basketball skills didn't involve scoring, his defense was of West Springfield legend, or at least that's what he bragged about in his adult years.
Tim attended the University of Connecticut where he received a BS in Allied Health - Medical Technology in 1996, and a Master of Business Administration in Health Systems and IT in 1998. He also played D1 men's soccer at UConn and is remembered to this day by his coaches and teammates as someone who worked hard every day to better himself. A principle that served him well throughout his life.
Tim's rewarding career as a healthcare consultant began at Arthur Andersen, escalated as Director of Healthcare Advisory Services at Price Waterhouse Coopers and concluded as Vice President, Client Solutions & Delivery at Optum. Tim's admirable work ethic yielded him a successful career and positively impacted coworkers and clients alike.
Tim's devotion to family and sports continued through his coaching of both of his children and other fortunate Cromwell youth via Cromwell Chill Soccer, Parks and Rec and CYO Basketball. He loved to play golf, where he provided his golf partners with evidence that he spent more time in the office than on the course, but he always parred the 19th hole. Tim's love for the Red Sox, soccer and dogs was evident in the names of the family's beloved yellow labs, Fenway and Keeper.
Tim was actively playing soccer as the Glastonbury Celtic Club goalie and served as the team's treasurer. Playing for the Club also provided him with the opportunity to engage in his favorite past time of socializing with friends over cold beers while talking sports and politics; usually centered around a Boston sports team or UConn men's basketball.
Tim was the friend everyone wanted, he embodied everything that was good and fun about friendship. He never missed an occasion to gather with his "West Side Boys" of the 413, The UConn Soccer Guys or his Cromwell Crew, often ending with a contentious game of setback. Tim's superpower was that he made every person in his life feel like they were his best friend and was the glue that kept everyone connected despite time or distance.
What made Tim available to so many friends was the commitment and loyalty that he had and received from his family. Family was first and foremost to Tim. Under the guise of continual laughter, he loved them fiercely and delighted in their achievements but most in quality downtime spent together. The culmination of this was building their dreamhouse in Clinton, CT where they were able to make memories to last a lifetime.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, February 19th, 10am, at St. John's Church, 5 St. John Court, Cromwell. Private burial will take place at a later date. Tim's family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, February 18th from 4PM to 7PM at the Cromwell Funeral Home, 506 Main Street in Cromwell. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Jimmy Fund www.jimmyfund.org/gift or PO Box 849168, Boston MA 02284.
A Celebration of Tim's Life will occur immediately following the funeral at the Irish American Home Society, 132 Commerce Street, Glastonbury. Friends and family are invited to attend and bring their favorite Tim stories, and together we can let him know that yes, Tim, it was "too soon."

I worked with Tim for several years. We always talked soccer and was a great leader and mentor. I will miss our soccer and work conversations. My prayers go out to the whole family. He will be truly missed at Optum.
