Timothy Alan Schurr, 68, of
Osborne, Kansas, passed away on November 20, 2025.
Tim was born in Beloit, Kansas on November 8, 1957, to Richard and Mary (Mayes) Schurr. He grew up in Osborne, graduated from Osborne High School in 1975, and later attended Goodland Vo-Tech, where he continued building the skills that shaped his lifelong work as a gifted carpenter. He spent many years working at Hardman Wholesale Company working in the Mill making windows and doors and also as a salesman in the front office.
Sports and the outdoors were central to who Tim was. He wrestled and played guard in high school football and was known for being a tough, talented athlete. His love of sports carried through the years as he followed the Kansas Jayhawks faithfully and cheered for the Oakland Raiders until his son-in-law Shawn told him the only team worth rooting for was the Kansas City Chiefs.
He was also an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and especially golf, proudly earning three hole-in-ones over the course of his golf "career." He spent a lot of time at the Shady Bend with his son-in-law Jared. Family often joked that he could hear a pheasant running through a ditch long before anyone else knew it was there. There were countless stories of him fishing at the same pond with others, all using the exact same bait, yet Tim was the one pulling fish after fish while everyone else went home empty-handed. He was either incredibly skilled or incredibly lucky, and most agreed it was a bit of both.
Softball was another lifelong passion. Tim played on an impressive local co-ed team that dominated tournaments across the region and played on different men's leagues over the years. His love of the game never faded, and he continued coaching up until this past summer. Over the years he coached countless youth players, including both of his daughters and later his granddaughter, Henley. Those seasons with Henley and her teammates became the highlight of all his years on the field. Teaching fundamentals, encouraging young athletes, and watching them grow in skill were some of the greatest joys of his life - he loved Summer most of all. The outpouring of messages from former teammates, players, and families is a testament to the impact he made on so many.
Tim spent almost his entire adult life with the City of Osborne Fire Department, serving 47 years as a firefighter and over 30 years as Fire Chief. His leadership and deep understanding of fire science made him a steady and committed part of the department and the community he helped protect and keep safe. He shared his knowledge generously, training new firefighters and teaching safety with pride. He especially loved community events, school visits, and parades where he could show kids the fire truck, talk about fire safety, and watch their faces light up.
Tim shared a lifelong bond with his closest friends Ron Anderson, Dave Slothower, Rick Smith, and Rusty Berry. Their friendship grew and strengthened through the years, marked by decades of stories, tournaments, hunts, golf outings, beer, and laughter. Their bond was a constant in his life. Tim shared a quiet closeness with his brother Dick and truly lost one of his best friends when he passed.
Above all of his hobbies, his favorite role was being Papa. He became a grandpa overnight when four little 10-year-old girls came into his life, Mallory, Jordan, Kasey and Holly. He loved them without hesitation from the very beginning. He never missed a moment with them, from riding rollercoasters at Silver Dollar City and Disneyworld, to countless sporting and school events, graduations, and later holding their babies as a proud great-grandpa. When Henley and Cooper arrived he was over the moon, and Lincoln's later arrival only made his world feel even more complete. He loved watching cartoons and whatever shows the boys were into just as much as they did. He was always good for popping the popcorn and sneaking them Gatorade.
In 1980, Tim married Tamara Corbett, and together they raised two daughters he loved with his whole heart. Tim is survived by his former spouse, Tammy and daughters Stefanie (Shawn) and Jenny (Jared). He adored his grandchildren: Mallory; Jordan (Tyler); Kasey; Holly (Cameron); Henley; Cooper; and Lincoln; along with his great-grandchildren Greyson, Tatum, Emery, and Quinton. There isn't a niece, nephew, or in-law who couldn't share a story about the way he embraced them with affection, humor, and that unmistakable teddy-bear heart. He loved and enjoyed everyone's spouses, partners, and in-laws, treating them all as true extensions of his family. He loved people and being social.
Tim is also survived by his brother Mike and his wife Joni; sisters Janet Miller and Linda Slothower; and so many nieces, nephews, and extended relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Dick and sister-in-law Valerie Schurr; and an infant grandson, Evan Quinton Morris.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Solomon Valley Larks
Special Olympics Team in honor of his best buddy and grandson, Cooper.
The last few years brought difficult health battles and although they altered his life, his spirit never faded. We take comfort knowing the weight of those struggles are no longer his.
