Wayne George Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rentschler Family Mortuaries - Clark Gashaw Chapel - Osborne on Feb. 1, 2026.
Wayne Lee George was born May 8, 1938, to Byron George and Betty (Graham) George, in Osborne, Kansas. He had a sister, Sydney (George) Heimerick, who predeceased him. He also had two nephews, James Heimerick and Christopher Heimerick.

Wayne attended Osborne High School for one year, and thereafter entered the work force in Osborne, being employed at Osborne Livestock Commission for many years, though he had a developmental disability. He was obviously a valuable employee. He was a hard worker and very energetic, was well-liked and well-respected.

He enjoyed going to the Osborne Public Library, where he read the magazines, as well as reading the encyclopedia. Despite his disability, he still wanted to learn.

He had been injured many times in handling livestock at the sale barn, but still came back, rarely complaining. He had a bout with cancer but recovered, and went back to work at the sale barn. Eventually, age caught up with him and he retired, reluctantly. He went to Progressive Care at Alton where he was welcomed and cared for. He appreciated the staff and other residents there, and enjoyed playing games, including Trivial Pursuit, amazing those around him that he knew the answers.

He moved to Downs Nursing Center in 2022. Again, he tended to keep to himself, but he truly enjoyed his time there with the residents and staff. Additionally, he was looked after and cared for by Julie Clark, which he truly appreciated.

His cancer returned, this time with a vengeance. But typical Wayne did not complain. He was in pain, but he kept that to himself.

On February 1, 2026, he joined his parents and sister at his new home. His friends here are saddened of our loss, but his pain is gone.
