Timothy Randolph Smith, of Pacolet, SC, passed away Thursday, September 4, 2025 at the age of 72. He was born in Greenville, SC on April 7, 1953 to the late Randolph Smith and Annie Ruth Childs Smith.
Tim was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. After his honorable discharge, he went to Elon University in North Carolina, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in English. He retired after over 25 years as an Optician, but he was never one to sit still, so Tim went back to work with the Union County Recycle Center.
He was a strong, outgoing, Christian man and member of Tate Memorial Baptist Church. Tim never met a stranger and could always bring a smile to your face. He was truly a kind and generous man, willing to give you the shirt off his back, and was the top fundraiser for The Ross Smith Student Fund. Tim was also an avid birdwatcher, sports fan, and loved sailing the Caribbean.
Tim is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Marlene Smith; children, Joseph Martin (Stephanie) of Pensacola, FL and Pamela Burcewicz (Mike) of Avon, OH; grandson, Donovan Burcewicz; siblings, Daniel Smith (Robin) of Spartanburg, SC and Jane Greene (Martin) of Plymouth, MA; and niece, Danielle Davis. He was predeceased by a nephew, Ross Smith.
The family will hold a private Celebration of Life at a later date.
In memory of Tim, contributions may be made to The Ross Smith Student Fund.
