Timothy Napier Whiting

Dr.Timothy Napier Whiting died peacefully on May 22, 2026, surrounded by family, friends, music and sounds of the sea.

Born in Boston on the 4th of July, 1947, Tim grew up on Beacon Hill, graduated from Lafayette College and attended medical school at Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, beginning a lifelong connection to Mexico.

As an Internist, Tim practiced medicine for decades in the Attleboro/ North Attleboro area, caring for patients in his office, Sturdy Memorial Hospital, Nursing homes, and in their homes. He believed medicine was built on relationships, presence, and responsibility. Early on he helped establish one of the areas first Hospice programs and served as Medical Director of the Attleboro Community Health Agency Hospice for 5 years.

Service shaped Tim's life beyond medicine. He was active in Democrats Abroad for 20 years while retired in Mexico, assisting Americans living overseas to Vote; he served as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention, and participated in N.Attleboro's Representative Town Meeting.

Tim loved Mexico, Martha's Vineyard, boating, fishing, swimming, the New England Patriots, spirited conversation, and travel and adventure. To his family, he was a rock and a lighthouse: steady, generous, dependable, and never without an opinion.

He is survived by his beloved partner, Kate Schomp, his son Michael Whiting and wife Sandra, his daughter Sarah E. Whiting and wife Dr.Lauren Schlanger; his grandson Cove; Kate's children and grandchildren; his nephews and their families, his former wife, Jalda Hantavis, and many relatives, friends, patients and colleagues. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Jonathan.

Family and friends are invited to a Tailgate Send-Off celebrating Tim's life on August 22, 2026 from 1:30 to 4:30pm at the North Attleboro Elks Lodge #1011. Come ready to share a story - Patriots attire or Hawaiian shirts are encouraged.
