Denise, Tate, Tacy, and Tess, I am so very sorry for your loss. Toby was a great guy and one-of-a-kind. I sure enjoyed getting to know him years ago. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Toby Jay Faehnrich, 47, of Sioux Falls passed away Monday October 30, 2023, at Avera Mckennan surrounded by family.
Toby was born on October 7, 1976, to Denise and Arthur in Mobridge, SD.
Toby grew up alongside his siblings in Sioux Falls, SD. While growing up he was either picking on his little sister, or fishing at the river with his little brother. He lived at the water 24/7 but he would never tell you his secret spots. If Toby wasn’t fishing, he was causing mischief often making the headlines in the paper for his silly acts.
Toby attended Lincoln High School where he held the record for fastest pin in wrestling and played softball in the summer. He graduated in 1995 and went straight into masonry work.
He loved creating something out of nothing and was most recently working for Walter Ree Masonry. During his career he took pride in being part of the Brick Layers and Allied Craftworkers local Union where he was the Union President for some years.
He married Jessica in 2004. They had no children, but he enjoyed raising his two stepchildren. After several years of marriage, they divorced where Toby continued his favorite hobbies of fishing, building and pulling pranks on his family and friends.
It became his signature goodbye when you’d hear the pop of a bottle rocket. It would make you jump but seeing his sly smirk as he drove away would always make you smile.
Toby was a very independent, private man but his soft spot always showed for the ones he cared for. He showed his love and caring side by helping others big or small. He would fill his days by serving others. All his family and friends would be able to tell you a project or two that he completed for them. That is who he was, a jack of all trades. Toby always found a solution to the problem, whether it was as small as replacing a car battery or complex as building a deck.
Even in his last years battling kidney failure and dealing with the discipline of dialysis he did not let that stop him from helping others, in his last days you found him helping the ones he loves most.
We can honor Toby today by paying it forward and lighting the bottle rockets. He was truly one a kind.
He is survived his Grandma Sharon Dale. Mother Denise Dale. Siblings Tate (Amy) Faehnrich, Tacy Hills, and Tess Klith. And many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by grandparents George and Verene Faehnrich, Grandpa Ronald Dale. Father Arthur Faehnrich and Stepfather Randy Klith. And several other family and friends who loved him dearly.
A Celebration of Life Visitation, with family present, will be at Heritage Funeral Home pm Friday, November 10, 2023, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m.
