Todd Shirley Obituary

Todd Andrew Shirley, 39, of Richlands, NC and formerly of Tully, NY passed away unexpectedly at his home on August 24, 2023.
He is survived by his wife Ruth and their children Timothy 8, Mia 6 and Lucas 2. Todd is survived by his sons Dylan Shirley 16, Evan Shirley 15 and Blake Shirley 15, of Morehead City, NC. He is survived by his mother Ellen Twentyman Shirley, brothers Edward Nathan Shirley (Debbie) and Eric Thomas Shirley (Margaret) of Tully, NY, as well as grandmothers Barbara Shirley Eckert of Rochester, NY and Marilyn Twentyman Stoker of Homer, NY.
Todd was predeceased by his father Edward John Shirley in January of 2000.
Todd was a 2002 graduate of Tully High School where he was a wrestler and played football. He earned his Bachelor and Masters degrees from Ithaca College. He taught high school and college Spanish in Maryland and North Carolina. He was a self-employed tree surgeon, lumberman and avid outdoorsman. Todd was an active member of First Baptist Church of Richlands. He loved God, his family and his work. He will be missed by his extended family and friends, and will be remembered by his nickname "Bub" and for his humor and fun nature.
In Todd's memory, donations will be gratefully accepted for his children's education fund, in care of Ellen Shirley, 6315 S. Salina St. Nedrow, NY 13120.
Burial will be at 2pm on Friday, September 8, at Onondaga Valley Cemetery, 2500 Valley Drive, Nedrow, NY 13120. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, September 9, at Preble Congregational Church,1953 Preble Rd., Preble, NY 13141.

To Ellen and all those
who loved Todd,
My heart breaks/aches for you ALL. He must have been much like his late dad, John, whom l knew at Tully HS. John was good buddies with my brother, Lenny. He was such a good kid who worked hard, loved his family so much, and truly enjoyed life. I imagine that Todd was much like that. How totally insane and unfair that he passed away at such a young age, as did his dad.
I have struggled as my thoughts have drifted to you all - often. Not knowing what on earth one can say to offer some comfort, it´s natural to point you to God.
He will be there for you. Talk to Him. Ask His for help. Know that He listens, and He loves you ALL.
I will pray for his mom, children, wife, grandma, all of his dear family, and his wonderful friends - at "home" and in NC.

I remember how much he cared for my son and his cousin Jeremy. He would always protect him. So many fond memories of the boys playing. My heart goes out to Ellen , Bobbie, his brothers and all his family. May God grant you all peace at this difficult time.

I will miss Todd. He came to my home several times and took out some trees for me. I always enjoyed his company and just thinking about future plans together. I was very saddened to hear of his passing. We would often call each other with potential entrepreneurship ideas. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Ruth y´all are on my thoughts.
