In Loving Memory of Tom DiMaggio
November 18, 1922 – October 5, 2024.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Tom DiMaggio at the age of 101 years and 11 months on October 5, 2024. Born in 1922 in Trapani, Sicily, Tom's life embodied resilience, unwavering faith, and a deep love for his family, community, and the sea.
At the age of 18, Tom emigrated from Sicily to Monterey, where he began his legendary fishing career alongside Salvatore Di Mercurio, who would later become his father-in-law. On April 24, 1949, Tom married Eva Di Mercurio, and together had three children, Tommy, Marilyn, and Salvatore.
Tom and Eva shared 73 wonderful years of marriage, a testament to their enduring love and strong Christian faith. Even after Eva's passing in 2021, Tom remained devoted to her memory, continuing to treasure the moments spent with family and friends. Beyond his love for fishing, Tom was passionate about bocce ball, playing Sicilian card games, and traveling, especially visiting his homeland of Sicily. Tom celebrated his milestone birthdays with grand parties at the Elks Lodge, a tradition he cherished, bringing together loved ones year after year. Tom leaves behind a lasting legacy of hard work, love, and community spirit. Tom is preceded in death by his wife Eva, his son Tommy, sister Sebastiana.
He is survived by his son Salvatore, daughter Marilyn, and granddaughter Meredith Smith. He will be deeply missed by his extended family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of Tom's life will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Sanctuary Bible Church, Carmel Valley. May his memory be eternal.
