Luther Thomas Garner, 89, of Newnan passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at the Monarch House. Tom was born in Meriwether County on May 11, 1935 to the late Luther (Bo) Garner and the late Ethel Owen Garner. He graduated in 1953 from Western High School. Shortly after graduation, he served 2 years with the Army National Guard and began his 35 year career with Georgia Power. Tom retired as their Labor Relations Coordinator in 1990 from the Atlanta office. He was also a member of Central Baptist Church.
Tom married the love of his life, Barbara "Nan" Williams on August 30, 1957. Tom and Nan lived in several different Georgia cities with his employment at Georgia Power, including Brunswick, Albany, Milledgeville, and Rome, before returning home to Newnan in 1970.
Survivors include his sister, Carol Ann Partridge; his brother, Lewis Alva Garner and his wife Donna; his son Tommy Garner and his wife Darlene; his daughters, Tammy Martz and Lynn Upchurch and her husband Charlie; 8 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nan W. Garner; his brother-in-law, Rev. Robert Partridge; his son-in-law, Jack Martz; and two great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Monarch House and to Guiding Light Hospice for their extra love and care for Tom.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home & Crematory, 38 Jackson St., Newnan with Rev. Katie Faison officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12 - 2 pm on the day of the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Central Baptist Church, PO Box 1221, Newnan, GA 30264.
