Tom Perkins Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Clary Memorial Funeral & Cremation Services, LLC on Dec. 14, 2023.
Tom Perkins, age 77, of Richland Center passed away on Monday, December 11, 2023. He enlisted in the Army, becoming a Paratrooper in the 173rd Airborne brigade during the Vietnam era. During his three-year stint in the U.S. Army, he became a sergeant. He was awarded a bronze and also a silver star for saving the lives of many fellow soldiers during his two years of active combat in Vietnam. Originally from Chicago, Tom moved to Richland Center in 1980 and started a handyman service which evolved into Perkins Lock. He enjoyed serving the southwest Wisconsin area for more than 40 years, unlocking many cars as well as servicing commercial and residential locks throughout the region. He was known for always having a story ready to share. He was also the man behind the sharing of many chocolate chip cookies during the holidays. He loved the area and the people in it, delaying retirement for 12 years in order to ensure the county had a locksmith, enjoying every minute.
Tom was a Christian and knew where he was going after his death, which gave him a lot of peace. He struggled with long-term pain from a back surgery but we know he now has all-consuming and glorious joy forever, pain-free.
Tom is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy Perkins, as well as two children, Katie Perkins and Steve Perkins.
Visitation will be held at Grace Community Church (23291 Co Hwy AA) on Thursday, December 21st from 3-5 PM, followed by a memorial service at 5 PM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Grace Community Church. We are still deciding on which charity to donate to but will know by the time of the service.
A special thanks to the Richland Center Hospital third floor nursing staff. Such genuinely kind and caring people are an unusual and real treasure in this world. Both Tom and his family were recipients of their truly empathetic care, with a special thanks to Briana and Darrin for their personalized attention to both Tom and his family at the end. www.clarymemorialfuneralhome.com
