TOMMY GENE “TOM” SHELLEY
TUMBLETON… Tommy Gene “Tom” Shelley, a resident of the Tumbleton Community of Henry County, near Headland, Alabama, passed away Friday afternoon, December 13, 2024, at his home. He was 88.
Funeral services will be held 11:30 A.M. Monday, December 16, 2024 at New Zion Free Will Baptist Church in Tumbleton, Alabama, with Reverend Joey Pettis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 11:30 A.M. prior to the service. Wright Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to the New Zion Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o David Teat, 10033 County Road 47, Shorterville, Alabama 36373.
Mr. Shelley was born in Tumbleton, Alabama to the late Adie Shelley and Cora Stephenson Shelley. He and his brothers, owned and operated Shelley’s Garage in Tumbleton, Alabama. Tom was a 1954 graduate of Headland High School. He served his country in the Alabama Army National Guard. Mr. Shelley was a member of the New Zion Free Will Baptist Church, where he was the oldest standing deacon.
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Miriam Arnold Shelley; his sisters, Mary Lou Shelley and Kathryn “Katie” Shelley; his brothers, Ronny Steve Shelley, Bobby Ray “Bob” Shelley, and Foy Oneal Shelley; his sister-in-law, Rose Shelley; his niece, Colleen Stokes; and his nephew, Shane Shelley.
Leaving to cherish his memories is his daughter, Amy Shelley Baril (Andy); of Childersburg, AL; his son, Kevin Gene Shelley (Pat) of Spokane, WA; his brothers, Carl B. Shelley (Sue) and David Martin “Pete” Shelley (Mae); his grandchildren, Hannah Morgan (Sam), Jessica Baril Gamble (Dylan), Sarah Jordan (Seth), and Griffith Shelley (Christi); his eight great-grandchildren; and his several nieces and nephews.
