Tomas Castro Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Leonard Funeral Home - Carrizo Springs on Mar. 4, 2026.
With love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the passing of Jose Tomas Castro, who entered into eternal rest on February 24, 2026, at the age of 80.

Born on August 9, 1945, Tomas was raised in Carrizo Springs before spending a number of years in Bensenville, Illinois. In 1983, he returned home to Carrizo Springs - the town that knew him well and loved him deeply. He was the kind of man whose presence filled a room. If you knew Tomas, you knew there would always be a smile, a story, or a playful comment close behind.

He was the devoted husband of his beloved wife, Esperanza Castro. Together, they built not only a beautiful family rooted in faith and resilience, but also a successful business, Casa Esperanza, which they proudly owned and operated for 21 years. Before becoming a business owner, Tomas worked at a print shop, where his strong work ethic and dedication were evident from the beginning. Through hard work, heart, and unwavering determination, he became a respected and well-known figure in the community.

Tomas was a proud father to Yvette, the late Yvonne, Eddie Berto, Javier and Esmeralda. He was an even prouder grandfather to Natalie, Katherine, RJ, McKenna, Christian, Calista, Caleb, Alayna, Davin, Amethyst, and Ares, and great-grandfather to Miley. His family was his greatest joy and his proudest accomplishment.

He is also survived by his loving sister, Amy Muniz.

A man of deep faith, Tomas was active in the Catholic Church and carried his faith with quiet strength. His devotion to God shaped the way he lived - with humility, generosity, and steadfast love. He led by example, always willing to lend a helping hand and never hesitating to show up for family, friends, or neighbors in need.

Tomas had a personality that was unforgettable. He loved movies, enjoyed traveling, and took pride in always looking and smelling his best. He was a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan and rarely missed a game. He cherished his green 1967 Fastback Mustang, a symbol of his style and pride. One of his favorite simple pleasures was sitting outside, waving to neighbors and staying connected to the community he loved so much.

Tomas leaves behind a legacy of laughter, resilience, generosity, faith, and love. The whole town knew him - and those who knew him will never forget him.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 5th, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Leonard Funeral Home, with the Rosary beginning at 7:00 PM.

Funeral services will take place Friday, March 6th. A final private viewing will begin at 8:00 AM, with the procession departing at 9:30 AM to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Carrizo Springs. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, followed by interment at Mount Hope Cemetery. A reception will be held from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Dimmit County Rodeo Arena Conference Center.

The Castro family asks that you continue to keep them in your prayers during this difficult time.
