Tommie Gene Fitzgerald

Memorial services for Tommie Gene Fitzgerald, 75, of Alto, will be held Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin, Texas, with Pastor Ford Adkins officiating.

Mr. Fitzgerald was born on October 16, 1950, in Lufkin, Texas, to the late Eugene Fitzgerald and the late Hazel (Mosley) Fitzgerald, and left for his Heavenly home Friday, January 30, 2026, in Dallas, Texas peacefully surrounded by family.

He was a graduate of Central High School and attended Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.

Tommie loved hunting and fishing and participated in many tournaments. One of his favorite past times was reading western books by his favorite author, William Johnstone. When he was a young man, he was a bull rider in rodeos and was on a successful bowling team. He also enjoyed horseback riding and was a proud member of his local men's baseball league. He was a pipefitter by trade and worked as a superintendent for Brown and Root. He also enjoyed carpentry. He loved cooking, gardening, and raising chickens in retirement.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Stormy and Roy Drummond of Orange; grandchildren, Lauren Ratcliff and husband, DJ of Silsbee, and Aiden Drummond of Orange; great-grandsons, Brantlee Ratcliff and Finn Ratcliff; numerous nieces and nephews; sisters, Ernestine Norton; Florence Heil and husband, Royce; Betty Pate and husband, Kerry; and Sandy Cook and husband, Wayne.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Helen Bednarek; niece, Karen Oates; nephew, Kevin Hodges; and nephew, Kerry "Bo" Pate.

Visitation will be held Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 10:30 to 11:00 am at Shafer Funeral Home.
