Tommy Gary Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crawford-A Crim Funeral Home on Jul. 22, 2024.
Tommy Lynn Gary, who died on July 21, 2024, at the age of 70, will be remembered for his quick wit and lasting impressions. He was born in Gladewater, Texas, on May 19, 1954, to Tommy Joe and Doris Briggs Gary, and he grew up with his older brother, Terry L. Gary. After graduating from Hallsville High School in 1972, he settled in Longview, where he raised his family.
Tommy's life took many different directions. He started as a steel worker, where he was nicknamed "Natural." After an accident hanging iron, he took on the role of Mr. Mom for a short time before he went into business with his dad at Gary Motor Company. Years later, he worked in the construction field operating heavy equipment.
While selling cars provided for his family, Tommy had several hobbies to fill his time off. He spent many early mornings on the lake, trying to catch the big one. He had a daredevil side that was freed when he hit the dirt track driving race cars. He went on to build East Texas Speedway with his brother-in-law, Bo Pepper, where the whole family spent their Friday nights working to entertain the folks of East Texas. He also enjoyed golfing and was an avid reader, particularly westerns. He loved both kinds of music - county and western. He was very proud of his two sons, Lynn (Susan) of Longview and Mark (Cameron) of Heath. They gave him four beautiful grandchildren that lovingly named him T-Pop - Tucker, Olivia, Dabney and Greer.
Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Doris Gary Williams of Lufkin, his brother Terry (Susan) of Cypress, Karen Gary McFarland (Mike), and a host of nephews, nieces, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bina (B.W.) and Bettie Gary and Reverend and Mrs. Eugene and Florence Briggs, and his father, Tommy Joe Gary.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 10:00 am at the Gladewater Memorial Park Cemetery.
