He worked for his dad at Lewis Repair for several years before going to work for Kinder Morgan. He worked for Kinder Morgan for 18 years in both Kansas and Nebraska before moving to Castle Rock, CO. He worked for the Town of Castle Rock for 19 years before retiring & moving to Prescott, AZ.
At an early age he started playing basketball and continued to play until his health prohibited it. He loved following friends and family in their sports endeavors whether it was cross country, basketball, baseball, some of the players referred to him as "Uncle Tom", he offered "big bucks" for home runs, he didn't have to pay up very often.
He and Aaron started collecting baseball cards and sports memorabilia, going to shows where they met many athletes and had great stories about them. After moving to Prescott, he opened the Dugout in the Pine Ridge Marketplace, which was still open at the time of his passing. He enjoyed collecting sports cards, memorabilia & talking to his customers about sports. He was an avid Las Vegas Raisers, Colorado Rockies and OU Sooners fan.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, his daughter Angie Gosnell of Argentina, Aaron (Lauren) of Phoenix, his grandchildren Taylor Vance (Austin), Jordan Black, Jordael Hernandez, Kal-El Hernandez and Cassius Hernandez all of Phoenix. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, all held a special place in his heart. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Dennis & Mark, his brother-in-law Kirk Yakel.
The family would like to invite friends to gather for a time of visitation before the service Saturday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Garnand Funeral Home of Lakin. Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 pm in Lakin Cemetery Saturday April 4, 2026 with Pastor Greg Fletcher officiating. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Reece Rubino Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Lakin. Please wear your favorite team colors or jersey in honor or Tom's love of sports.
