Tommy Shannon

Tommy Lee Shannon, 78, was called home on Saturday, December 26, 2015 surrounded by family and love. Tommy was born and raised in Morgan County, but spent the majority of his adult years working out of state. He retired and returned to his birthplace in 2000. Restless and wanting to fill his days, he began working at the Morgan County courthouse as the Head of Maintenance, a job he thoroughly enjoyed. Most recently he moved to Winchester, KY to be closer to his children. Tommy could always be found with a smile, a joke, or just a kind word about someone. In life, few people touch so many others in a positive way as he did. Among the many blessings we can count, knowing Tommy was surely one of them. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elijah and Jesse, a brother, Clarence of Augusta, Ga., and a sister, Sue Mahaney of Virginia Beach, VA. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Patricia (Dawson) of Winchester, KY, sons Michael of Gurnee, IL, David of Bellevue, FL, Richard (Tabili) of Kenosha, WI, Philip (Tabili) of Kenosha, WI; four daughters, Debbie (Reitz) of Ocala, FL, Brenda (Morehouse) of Kenosha, WI, Lynda (Stidham) of Winchester, KY, and Gina (Tabili-Cotton) of Coalfield. Tommy's 27 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren brought immeasurable joy to his life and they will sorely miss his presence. He is also survived by his brother, Bill of Wartburg, and sisters Juanita (Armes) of Wartburg , Lolita (Daugherty) of Rockwood, , Minnie Ann (Armes) of Wartburg, Peggy (Budnik) of Rockwood, and countless nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, December 29, from 5pm-7pm at Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg with the funeral immediately following visitation at 7:00 p.m. Graveside services Wednesday at 11am.
