Tommy Teague Obituary

Tommy Lee Teague

September 26, 1934 - October 1, 2025

Tommy Lee Teague, 91, passed away peacefully at home on October 1, 2025. He was born September 26, 1934, to the late Oscar and Mossie (Stone) Teague. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Teague; sons, Lee Teague of Raleigh, NC, Jason Cranford Teague (Tara) of Greensboro, NC, and David Teague (Lauren) of Brooklyn, NY; son-in-law, Roy Welsh (Josie) of Siler City, NC; and grandchildren, Dakota Welsh, Samuel Teague, Dashiel Teague, Dez Teague, Henry Wedekind, and Gabe Weber. In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by his two brothers, O.B. Teague, Jr. and John E. Teague. Many extended family and friends also mourn his death.

He was a lifelong resident of Greensboro, NC, who graduated from Greensboro High School in 1953. He was one of the first students to graduate from Wake Forest University's new campus with a degree in Business Administration in 1957. He was president of Teague Auto Supply in Greensboro until 1989, and continued as a real estate investor until his death. He was a lifelong learner and avid reader, especially of biographies and historical nonfiction. He traveled extensively, which he said always expanded his mind. He enjoyed meeting new people and discussing ideas.

He quietly made an impact on the Greensboro community and beyond. Through the family's Oscar and Mossie Teague Foundation, he started the project "Hooked on Books" to allow students from selected schools to buy books for their own at home use. He instituted a fund in the Wake Forest Business School for scholarships for undergraduates, which has particularly helped students from North Carolina.

Memorial donations may be made to Wake Forest University for the Teague Scholarship Fund mailed to Gift Administration, Wake Forest University, 1834 Wake Forest Road, Box 7227, Winston-Salem, NC 27109 or online at https://donations.secure.wfu.edu/giving?designation=other&comment=Teague%252520Scholarship%252520Fund.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
