Tommy Joe Treat
30th of August 1940 – 10th of March 2026
Marietta, Ga – Tommy Joe Treat, a devoted family man, proud Air Force veteran, and faithful servant of the Catholic Church, passed away peacefully on the 10th of March 2026 at the age of 85.
A Life of Service
A lifelong champion of youth and character, Tommy dedicated an incredible 42 years to the Boy Scouts of America, leaving an indelible mark on generations of young men. His leadership spanned every level of the scouting journey, serving with distinction as Cubmaster of Pack 750 and later as the steady hand, starting Troops 75 and 422 as their Scoutmasters. His commitment to the movement's values went far beyond the weekly meeting; he served as a vital bridge between his faith and service as Chairman of the Catholic Committee on Scouting. Deeply respected for his integrity and high standards, he also served as a long-standing member of the Eagle Review Board, where he took great pride in mentoring young scouts as they reached the pinnacle of the program. To Tommy, scouting wasn't just a hobby-it was a calling to build a better, more honorable world, one scout at a time.
Patriotism and Duty
A dedicated patriot with a profound sense of duty, Tommy completed a distinguished 36-year career in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant. His decades of service were defined by the Air Force core values of integrity and excellence, earning him the deep respect of his fellow airmen and commanders alike. Upon transitioning from active/reserve service, he continued his commitment to his country as a contractor with Lockheed Martin, providing vital support to the government. His life was a masterclass in service, transitioning seamlessly from the uniform to the private sector, yet never wavering in his devotion to his country, remaining a proud veteran until his final day.
Faith and Community
A man of deep and abiding faith, Tommy was a pillar of his parish community, where his devotion to the Catholic Church was lived out through constant service and fellowship. As an active member of the Knights of Columbus, he embodied the principles of charity and fraternity, always ready to lend a hand to those in need. He found great purpose in his weekly work with the church food pantry, ensuring that no one in his community went without a meal or a kind word. When he wasn't serving, he could often be found sharing a laugh and a story with the Siena Senior group, where he cherished the camaraderie and vibrant friendships of his later years. His life was a beautiful reflection of the Gospel-defined by a generous spirit and a loving smile.
Family and Legacy
Beyond his professional and community service, he was a man who found great joy in life's simple pleasures. An avid sports fan, he was often found cheering on his favorite teams (the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs) with a truly infectious passion. Some of his happiest moments, however, were spent away from the sidelines at the breakfast table, sharing a meal, a laugh, and a story or two with his cherished retired co-workers. These morning gatherings were a testament to the lifelong friendships he built and the camaraderie he so deeply valued.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Linda, and his three sons: Tim (wife, Patty), Terry (wife, Holly), and Todd (wife, Candy). His legacy of kindness and integrity lives on through his seven grandchildren: Phillip, Taylor, Carter, Crystal, Valerie, Victoria, and Tyler, as well as his seven great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved and adored.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Tommy's honor to the Atlanta Area Council, Scouting America in Atlanta, GA. https://donations.scouting.org/council/092/appeal/8805
